Working in a Global Pharmaceutical Company: Expectations and Opportunities

Kirsten Lund-Jürgensen is a pharmacist from Kiel University in Germany and holds a PhD inpharmaceutical biology from the University of Freiburg, Germany. Her pharmaceutical industrycareer spans 32 years, the last 19 with Pfizer Global Supply (PGS), after joining the company fromSmithKline Beecham in 1999 as vice president of Global Supply Chain Management,Pharmaceuticals. At SmithKline Beecham she held various global operational and leadershippositions in Australia, Germany and the United States, including site leader of Consumer andPharmaceutical Plants, vice president of Global Strategic Planning and vice president of ContractorManagement, Europe. In 2000, she was named vice president of Supply Chain Management for allPfizer global businesses. She then led the Patented Products Operating Unit (in Europe andSingapore) during 2008-2009, and the Primary Care and Oncology Operating Units (in Europe,Singapore, Canada) during 2009-2012. In 2012 Kirsten was named vice president of ProductPortfolio Management for Primary Care, Established Products and Oncology. She was appointed asProduct Portfolio Management lead and PGS lead for Vaccines, Oncology and Consumer in 2014and subsequently vice president of Innovative Health Product Portfolio Management and ConsumerOperations. In December 30, 2016 she was named executive vice president and president of PGSand since then she has been responsible for Pfizer's internal and external supply network. Inaddition, Kirsten is a board member of the Pfizer Foundation, and the Executive Leadership Team(ELT) sponsor for Pfizer's Environmental Sustainability Program and the Latino Colleague ResourceGroup. Kirsten also sits on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufacturers.

The seminar series "Academia meets Industry" aims at stimulating interdisciplinary discussionsbetween university members and high profile managers from industry and public healthorganizations. It addresses the complex challenges in science, management, politics and societywhich are promoted by both university and industry in a concerted action. At these seminars thepractical perspective of the guest speakers encounters the education and research priorities of theuniversity and thus allows an unprecedented dialogue on chances and risks of current and futureresearch developments in life sciences.
