Artist in Residence: Close to the brain

Artist in Residence 1 (2015): Documentary Film

Israeli filmmaker Maya Rothschild (and her associate Tami Gross) came to Freiburg several times over
the project’s "Störung/Hafraah" period and documented the project as well as interview involved persons
showing the cluster’s work on assistive systems for patients with movement disorders. In
this documentary film, the perspective of the patients and the scientists will be brought
together, underlining how patients’ needs and scientific efforts are interwoven. A 30 minutes movie called "Störung" was showen at the final conference of the project at theater Freiburg, in the Mendel cultural center in Tel Aviv and at Tanzhaus NRW.

Artist in Residence 2 (2016): Literature and performance

In a second instance we invited the author Annette Pehnt to visit the cluster for three months. She had the chance to talk to the cluster’s scientists, clinicians and patients in order to get an insight into their work and visions. On a regular basis the artist and scientists convened to discuss, address arising questions and in doing so, learned from each other. The result is a collages of texts read at Literaturbüro Freiburg and transformed into a performance by the musician Harald Kimmig.
