RSS 2019 workshop

The Robotics: Science and Systems conference (RSS) has a long history of bringing together researchers in all areas of robotics from around the world for an engaging and focused week of scientific exchange. Workshops are an important part of the RSS programme. 

For the RSS 2019, to be held in Freiburg, Germany, we cordially invite you to contribute to our workshop on recent advances in neurorobotics.

Research in Neurorobotics has seen great progress in recent years, including improved brain signal decoding techniques, better robot control algorithms, and innovative brain-computer interfaces. However, to address challenges such as rapid adaptation of BCIs and robot skills to new tasks and users, personalized robot behavior and rehabilitation paradigms, and smooth human-robot interaction, new solutions will have to be found. In this workshop, we bring together researchers from Neuroscience, Robotics, and Machine Learning to interact and propose new directions towards this goal. The workshop will have a particular focus on robots and technical devices that interact with the human and potentially are controlled via brain-machine interfaces.

Call for Abstracts

We invite submission of 2-4 page extended abstracts compliant with the RSS style guidelines. Submissions may include late-breaking results, under review material, or material on arXiv. Accepted contributions will be presented in a poster session, and may be selected for a short spotlight presentation.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Shared autonomy between robots/neurotechnological devices and humans
  • Utilization of developmental processes and constraints in the brain for robot learning
  • Neural mechanisms underlying social interaction
  • Motion prediction in humans and robots
  • Application of machine learning techniques for motor rehabilitation
  • Deep (reinforcement) learning methods for brain-machine interfaces, (brain-controlled) robots and prostheses
  • Learning rules inspired by structural and synaptic plasticity
  • Neuromorphic implementations of neural networks
