BrainLinks-BrainTools is inviting all members, colleagues and friends to a guest lecture given by Prof. Dr. Josef Bischofberger from the University of Basel:
Synaptic excitation of newly generated young granule cells in the adult hippocampus
Abstract: The hippocampal dentate gyrus is one of the few brain regions in the mammalian brain which continues to generate new principal cells during adulthood. Joseph Bischofberger’s work focuses on the questions of how newly generated neurons are integrated in the existing dentate gyrus neuronal network, how and when they form synapses to communicate with the existing neurons and to which extent they alter their morphology and intrinsic membrane properties during the maturation process. Since various brain diseases are correlated with a decline in neurogenesis in this brain area, we believe that his talk will be of general interest to life scientists in Freiburg.
