BrainLinks-BrainTools and NeuroForum Freiburg are inviting all members, colleagues and friends to a guest lecture by Professor Dr Lisa Topolnik from the Université Laval in Québec City, Canada:

Cellular diversity, connectivity and network-state-dependent recruitment of VIP-expressing GABAergic neurons in the CA1 hippocampus

Abstract: Synaptic plasticity in excitatory glutamatergic neurons is broadly accepted as the cellular basis for learning and memory. Recent investigations show that synaptic inputs on GABAergic inhibitory cells also undergo plastic changes. The role of interneuron plasticity in higher brain function is however largely unknown. Dr Lisa Topolink focuses her work on the mechanism underlying interneuron plasticity and its relevance in behavior. She is a world leading expert in imaging and uses in vitro and in vivo calcium imaging of single neurons and neuron populations as a read out of neuronal activity and plastic changes.
