"Career resources for a self-directed career management" with Dr. Roger Gfrörer

The participants are working on their presentations

18 March, 2016

When I read the title of the today's kite-event for the first time, I found it rather vague.
But it did not take long for me to realize that this event was anything but imprecise once the lecture started.
Dr. Gfrörer started the presentation with a short and clear definition of the word "career".
During the morning the lecturer provided a lot of input: he emphasized for examample how important it is for everybody's career to know their own skills and strengths.
Moreover, he explained to the mentees how they can detect their own 'resources' and he made clear that there are different kinds of resources: personal, general and academic resources.
Furthermore, Dr. Gfrörer presented his "15 ways to your next career step" to the participants.
All these points mentioned might sound very theoretical. - But Dr. Gfrörer succeeded in illustrating abstract subjects in a clear way.
He used many illustrations from his own career for this. By presenting his CV to the mentees, he pointed out the relevance of happenstance for the career and highlighted how we can create and influence these happenstances for example.
After Dr. Gfrörer had imparted a lot of theory and given much advice, the participants had to work as well. In the afternoon the mentees had to think about and to present their resources.
