Junior scientists develop their future career perspectives

How to continue after having finished a PhD? This was the central question for the participants of the first BrainLinks-BrainTools career dinner. During a common dinner at the Peterhofkeller, the junior scientists could meet and interview invited professionals in small groups and inform themselves about different career options. So why not share the appetizer in a discussion with a self-employed data scientists, have the main course with a McKinsey consultant, eat the dessert with a researcher working in industry and finish the evening by having a drink with a european patent attorney.

The event was offered by the BrainLinks-BrainTools graduate program and was organized by the junior scientist representatives Andreas Meinel and Jan Deubner with support from the graduate program coodinator Dr. Luise Goroncy. Besides for the BrainLinks-BrainTools junior scientists, the evening was also open to participants from collaborating programs like the kite mentoring for female scientists and the graduate program at the Bernstein Center Freiburg.

Special thanks go to our eleven invited guests and their readiness to share their experiences with the young researchers. The participants welcomed the chance for exchange and used intensively the opportunity to ask questions and inform themselves about different careers.

The open atmosphere and the excellent organization made this evening a valuable event for guests and participants, motivating the organization team to think about another BrainLinks-BrainTools career dinner after encouraging feedback from all sides.
