Junior scientists combine scientific work and exchange with networking on a three day workshop

In April 2017, postdocs, doctoral candidates and master students of the BrainLinks-BrainTools Cluster of Excellence enjoyed a self-organized three day workshop in Überlingen at the Lake Constance. The participants introduced each other in cross-teaching sessions to the fundamentals of their fields, including neural networks, EEG, fMRI, machine learning, statistics, epilepsy, hardware and neurobiology. Subsequently, these topics were discussed among the young researchers to ask questions and understand the contents that are outside of one’s own subject area. Two guest lectures by Dr. Pierre LeVan on fMRI and EEG and by Prof. Dr. Jens Timmer on statistics enriched the workshop.

Beside the scientific work, the early career researchers discussed and planned future events and activities for the promotion of junior scientists. Dr. Luise Goroncy represented the central management of BrainLinks-BrainTools and informed about the current developments within the cluster of excellence. A free afternoon was used by the participants to organize a private sailing trip on the Lake Constance.

The focused scientific work in an inviting and open atmosphere inspired the participants and enhanced the network among junior scientists. Special thanks go to Dr. Pierre LeVan and Prof. Dr. Jens Timmer who taught the early career researchers with a lot of passion.
