BrainLinks-BrainTools is inviting all members, colleagues and friends to a guest lecture given by Dipl.-Ing. Patrique Fiedler, research assistant at the TU Ilmenau:

The multipin electrode: An adaptive electrode concept for dry electroencephalography

Abstract: Electrode and cap concepts for continuous and ubiquitous gel-free monitoring of brain activity will open up new fields of application and contribute to increased use of electroencephalography (EEG) in clinical routine, neurosciences, brain-computer-interfacing and out-of-the-lab monitoring. However, mobile and unobtrusive applications are currently hindered by the lack of applicable convenient, reliable electrode and cap systems. The talk will cover the latest results of our novel modular electrode concept based on a flexible polymer substrate, coated with electrically conductive metallic films. Topics include the electrode substrate design criteria, substrate flexibility and coating material selection as well as requirements and concepts for cap or helmet design. The multipin electrode concept enables selection of specific design and electrode parameters in order to adapt the overall system to different applications and individual head geometries and hair layers.
