The fourth BrainLinks-BrainTools Annual Meeting took place from October 5 to 7.

From October 5 to 7, the fourth BrainLinks-BrainTools Annual Meeting took place in Freiburg with over 160 participants from the cluster and some special guests.

All sub-projects presented their state of affairs in talks and posters. The junior scientists’ contributions stood out particularly positively. Inspirational keynote speeches were given by scientific advisory board members Daniela Rus and Andrew Schwartz as well as by ethics board member Michael Decker. In an additional speech, University of Freiburg’s Vice-President for Research, Gunther Neuhaus, promised his support for the cluster of excellence’s future plans. A general assembly on Friday concluded that executive board member Oliver Paul, who has just become Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, will be succeeded by Thomas Stieglitz, head of the renowned Laboratory for Biomedical Microtechnology, as deputy spokesperson and coordinator for Research Area B. Oliver Paul will still be with BrainLinks-BrainTools as an ordinary member. Furthermore, Andreas Meinel and Jan Deubner have been confirmed as PhD students’ representatives in a junior session.

The cluster is now moving on to the application phase for the next round of the universitary Excellence Competition and is already looking forward to discussing its project results with a broader scientific audience at a BrainLinks-BrainTools international conference held in Freiburg in June 2017.
