Junior Scientists Workshop

Platform for better exchange and communication of cluster related scientific topics, problems and knowledge

In the end of March, 26 junior scientists (Master Students, PhDs and Postdocs) from the BrainLinks BrainTools research cluster have met for three days at the Uni-Haus of the University of Freiburg on the Schauinsland. This meeting aimed to the establishment of a platform for better exchange and communication of cluster related scientific topics, problems and knowledge within the junior scientist’s community. Especially the development and intensification of collaborations among the individual projects was targeted.

The workshop was divided in two parts: On the one hand, the participants presented their project and their research work focusing mainly on problems and challenges to be tackled. For that matter, 17 presentations were carried out, each one corresponding to one BrainLinks BrainTools project (e.g. MAKE IT ReaL, FAMOX, LiNC, COLUMNS, DosDemos or CogRehab). Additionally, two talks on fundamental topics were presented (“Movement related cortical areas” and “Basics of Electrical Engineering and Recording”) by two volunteers of the junior scientists. On the other hand, discussions about future events organized by the junior scientists’ community were proposed. Events like soft skill workshops, the organization of a mini-conference, trips to companies or lecture sessions about topics of interest were discussed.

The next event of and for the junior scientist is planned during summer 2015.
