"Introduction to Business Administration"

8.-9. July, 2016

On Friday, the first day of the two-day event on the subject "Business Administration", Dr. Martin Lutzenberger, Director of the office in Berlin from Swiss Economics, provided a general introduction to the topic of the today's event. He started by defining terms whose understanding was essential for the rest of the meeting. He explained for example what "company" actually means and how conclusions can be drawn from the rate of a return to a potential risk.
Admittedly, Business Administration is a theme which at the first glance seems very dry and far too complex to be taught within only two days. But Dr. Lutzenberger's lecture which is refreshingly different will teach you better. Martin Lutzenberger succeeded in explaining complex themes and correlations by using examples and anecdotes from his professional and private life in a clear and interesting way.
Humor, eloquence and spontaneity brought the mentees from kite-mentoring closer to the abstract topic Business Administration. The presentation from Dr. Lutzenberger was very dialogical. In addition to providing theoretical input, the speaker took a lot of time to answer the numerous questions of the participants. And the mentees had to become active as well. In two cases they practiced right away what they had learned during the event.
After Dr. Martin Lutzenberger had imparted the basic knowledge about Business Administration, the mentees got the chance to deepen their knowledge on Saturday in Carola Rinker's lecture "Bilanzen lesen und verstehen". In her presentation, Carola Rinker answered questions from the participants and explained for example the difference between a plc (public limited company) and an Ltd. The lecturer illustrated the content of her presentation by using current examples such as the Frankfurt-Hahn Airport or the online supplier Zalando. Furthermore, Rinker explained the difference between HGB and IFRS a well als the corresponding annual accounts. And she told the participants in which cases it may be advisable to check a company report of a potential employer before the job interview.
Based on the annual report from 2014 from Oncotest GmbH, Freiburg, the mentees learned with the aid of a concrete example from their environment how to read balances and especially how to understand them.
